About Representative Carbone

Arizona State Representative Michael Carbone - Headshot - Conservatives for Carbone

I was born Michael Carbone to a single mom who was battling her own demons. I never really knew my biological dad. When I was two, she remarried Christer Jorudd, who adopted me at the time, and for a while I had a complete family. When I was in second grade they divorced, and my grandparents took me in and looked after me. They did their best to teach me right from wrong, but a couple of years later my mom remarried again and I moved back in with her and her new husband. What remained of my childhood became physically and mentally challenging, and I eventually moved out (and back in with my grandparents) when I was in high school.

As a result of my own upbringing, I’ve always placed special emphasis on family, faith, roots, and making sure that people in my own family know they matter to me. Growing up the way I did wasn’t easy, and I made mistakes along the way. I got in trouble, was charged with a DUI when I was 19 years old, but God was looking out for me and everyone else, and I made it to adulthood in one piece – wiser, and very aware of the responsibilities I would have.

I’m a husband, dad, small business owner, and someone who has been involved in education issues for years, both in a professional capacity, and as a conservative activist who wanted to make sure that our tax dollars were being properly spent and that parents had a strong voice in the process.

I’m originally from Illinois and I did what I could there to fight for limited government, low taxes, and parental rights, but let’s face it – I was in Illinois, and the powers that be in Chicago, teacher unions, and elsewhere, were hard at work ruining a great state. While I was cutting spending and balancing budgets in local districts, the system around me was growing uncontrollably, and the swamp was taking over.

So, my wife and I packed up the family and moved to Arizona, where individual liberties and common-sense conservative values were valued and celebrated. Now I am fishing, shooting, and getting back into hunting for the first time since I was a kid.

Arizona has been awesome for my family and I, however, we are now facing an invasion of sorts from California and other failing states (including New York and Illinois), where people who ruined their states are fleeing for well-functioning states like Arizona. Except they are bringing their failed ideas and bad voting habits with them.

That’s why I agreed to step up and run for office. I know business, I know education, I know how to craft balanced budgets and I know how important it is to keep taxes low, regulations limited, elections secure, and our communities safe.

I know how important local industries and sectors like ranching and agriculture are to our state’s economy. I also know what happens to Arizona if we lose these fights. That’s why I’m 100% committed to fight for Arizona First principles.

Veterans

God bless those who serve and who have served. Arizona is an increasingly friendly state for veterans and I’d like to see Arizona ranked #1 on any such list.

I’ll work to protect our military bases and to provide support for those on active duty. I’d also like to pursue ways that we can make life easier for our retired veterans community, so that they can enjoy a high quality of life on their fixed income pensions.

Economy

Arizona is one of the hottest job markets in the country and the fastest growing state in the country, because we have cut taxes and regulations and built a state where companies can naturally grow and thrive.

Let’s keep things working while making smart plans for how to accommodate future growth. We will face transportation, water, and infrastructure challenges, but if we plan well, we can continue to set an example for the rest of the country to follow.

Pro-Life

I am a past member of the board of directors for Right to Life in Illinois and was endorsed by the Right to Life PAC when I ran for office there.

I am pro-life, pro-family, and support policies to provide abortion alternatives and support for expecting mothers, as well as support once the baby is born.

2nd Amendment

“Those who are not willing to die for their freedom, deserve neither freedom nor liberty.”

I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, the most restrictive state for gun owners in America, so trust me when I tell you that gun control doesn’t work and it gets people killed. I support gun ownership and will fight 100% for the protection of our 2nd Amendment rights. “Shall not be infringed” says it all!

Water

Agriculture is part of the economic heartbeat of Arizona and is a major industry in our Legislative District. My father’s parents were all corn farmers back in Dekalb, Illinois, so I grew up with an appreciation for the industry and the life.

Growing up near the border of Wisconsin also meant I had a lot of friends who were corn and dairy farmers, which gave me the chance to gain farming experience of my own.

When I ran for office in Illinois I was endorsed by my local Farm Bureau, and I bring that same passion for the industry and the families who are involved in it, to this campaign.

I’ll fight for the water rights we need and work to protect the industry who want to shut it down or move it to other states because they think they know better.

Election Integrity

We need to have fair, honest, and accurate elections. If you disagree, you shouldn’t be in elected office. Yet far too many Republicans are defending the flaws in our existing system because they don’t like Donald Trump, when this fight isn’t about Donald Trump at all.

We need to know that only legal citizens vote, that our votes are counted correctly, that efforts to commit fraud are blocked and prosecuted, and that our system works as it should. For every candidate, in every race, every time.

Efforts by the radical left to open our system to non-citizens or to play games with how we vote or how we count the vote are nothing more than attempts to rig the system in their favor, at the expense of what is right.

I’ll fight for Election Integrity and I’ll make it a real priority.

Border Security

Donald Trump had a border security policy that was the best America had seen in decades, and it was working! Joe Biden has reversed all of it – stopping the wall construction, restarting catch and release, and allowing human trafficking, gangs, drugs, and violence to pour across our border in record amounts. This puts our state and our country at risk, overcrowds our hospitals and some of our schools, and puts the men and women of law enforcement and border patrol at much greater risk.

No more. Enforce our laws, finish the wall, end illegal immigration.

No taxpayer-funded benefits for those here illegally. We have processes in place to allow legal immigration and guest workers for industries that need them, but those who would break our laws and trespass into our country can no longer be tolerated.

Parental Rights

Education is the only way up the ladder of success in our country. Without, our kids don’t stand a chance. That’s why I’ve been active in education policy for over 14 years. I served as an elected board member for a school district.

My wife, son, and daughter-in-law all work today in education. When I was an elected school board member I wanted to show how we can bring private sector principals to the public sector and helped save millions of dollars. I’m a proud supporter of Parental Rights and empowering parents.
